Indian Premier League, famously known as IPL is a professional Cricketing League started in India in 2008. Currently, the ninth edition of the tournament is underway with 8 successful years behind the tournament. Every IPL fan dreams of sitting in the dugout or alongside the players lounge but this facility is available only to the IPL team owners.
Owning an IPL team is not that easy, it needs a lot of investment,experience and need to face numerous challenges. Owners need to have a lot of patience and a positive mindset at any given timeframe. Here presenting you the list of IPL teams and it’s owners.
1. Mumbai Indians – Reliance Industries
Mumbai Indians franchise is owned through 100% subsidiary IndiaWin sports by Reliance Industries. Nita Ambani, wife of Mukesh is considered as the face of this team, she travels with the team for all the matches throughout the IPL cheering for the boys. She is an avid cricket lover. Mumbai Indians is one of the most fan followed Team of the IPL. Mumbai has won 2 editions of IPL.
2. Royal Challengers Bangalore – United Spirits Limited
Bangalore franchise is a fully owned subsidiary of United Spirits Limited. Vijay Mallya of UB Group was the former owner of RCB but recently he resigned to the post and there is clear info over the ownership of RCB.
3. Kolkata Knight Riders – Shah Rukh Khan & Jay Mehta
Kolkata franchise is owned by King Khan Shah Rukh Khan in partnership with Juhi Chawla and her spouse Jay Mehta. Mehta’s Mehta group and SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment are the joint owners of KKR.
4. Sun Risers Hyderabad – Kalanithi Maran, Sun TV Network
SRH is owned by Kalanithi Maran of Sun TV Network, which is one of the biggest Television networks in India. After Deccan Charges was scraped Kalanithi Maran brought the Hyderabad Franchise and named it as Sun Risers Hyderabad.
5. Kings XI Punjab – Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia, Karan Paul, Mohit Burman
Kings XI Punjab is owned by different groups – Dabur’s Mohit Burman, Karan Paul of Apeejay Surrendra group, Ness Wadia of Wadia’ group and Bollywood’s Dimple queen Preity Zinta.
Zinta is the regular face for all those Kings XI fans at the stadium.
6. Rising Pune Supergiants – Sanjiv Goenka
This is one of the new teams which debuted this year into IPL. Mr. Sanjiv Goenka the chairman of New Rising and RP-Sanjiv Goenka (RPSG) Group is the proud owner of Rising Pune Supergiants. RP-Sanjiv Goenka group has given employment to over 50,000 individuals. To match with his company name Sanjiv and team decided to name his IPL team as RPSG – Rising Pune Supergiants.
7. Delhi Daredevils – GMR Group
Delhi has been in the IPL from 2008. GM Rao of GMR group owns the team and his son Kiran Gandhi is seen cheering from the stands for every match of Delhi. This year Zaheer Khan is roped in as Captain and Rahul Dravid as the mentor.
8. The Gujarat Lions – Keshav Bansal ( Intex Technologies)
Gujarat Lions is the other new team which made its debut in this year’s IPL. At the age of 24, Keshav Bansal Director of Intex Technologies became the youngest person to won an IPL team. An entrepreneur himself, Bansal trusted Raina to do captaincy for his team and picked youngsters for his team.
