Number plate is also known as Vehicle registration plate. Every Indian vehicle should have a Vehicle registration plate issued by district-level Regional Transport Office (RTO). We might have seen different types and different colours of number plates in our day to day life. So have you ever wondered why some number plates differ in colour? Well! we have an answer for that. There are 6 permanant types of number plates that are used in India.
Let’s take a look at them.
1. Blue number plate
All the foreign embassy & delegate vehicles will have blue number plates with white text. Thet also have some special codes like UN, CC or CD which means United Nations, Consular Corps, Diplomatic Corps respectively.
2. Red number plate
Red coloured number plates are alloted for test vehicles with white text on it. These red number plates are used for testing and promotion of their new vehicle.
3. Military vehicles number plate
Military vehicles will have a unique and different numbering system and they are registered under Ministry of Defence in New Delhi. The 1st / 3rd character of military vehicle number plates will have an upward pointing arrow known as Broad arrow.
4. Yellow number plate
Commercial vehicles like autos, taxis and trucks etc will have a yellow plate with black text.
5. Black plate with yellow text
Commercial self-driven vehicles which are availble on rent purpose will have this kind of number plates.
6. White number plate
These are the number plates that are used by common people. All private vehicles will have these white number plate.
